VDW · GENUINE RECIPROC® · UK STOCKOne file. One motion.
The whole preparation.
RECIPROC® blue R25 · 25 mm – the one-file workhorse

Still stepping through a file sequence? RECIPROC® blue prepares the complete canal with a single reciprocating instrument – and in the majority of cases, without creating a glide path first. The R25 (tip ISO 25, .08 regressive taper) is VDW's size for most canals, including narrow and curved ones, and 25 mm is the length most cases call for. It is the file the system was designed around: one sterile instrument, one canal, done.

This pack (REF V040252025025): 6 × RECIPROC® blue R25, 25 mm · radiopaque rings at 18/19/20/22 mm – sterile blisters, single use

// Why reciprocation, not rotation?

A continuously rotating file screws itself into the canal – and when it binds, torsional stress has nowhere to go. RECIPROC® moves differently: an unequal back-and-forth motion, with the cutting and releasing angles matched to the alloy's elastic limit. The file advances, cuts, and disengages before stress can accumulate. VDW positions the system as easier to learn and teach than rotary sequences, with less likelihood of procedural errors – the motor handles the motion while your attention stays on the anatomy.

// What the blue actually is

» The colour isn't a coating – it's the visible result of VDW's heat treatment of the NiTi itself.

Against the original RECIPROC®, the blue alloy gives the R25 up to 40% more flexibility, better centring in the canal with less transportation, higher cyclic-fatigue resistance, and something no standard NiTi rotary offers: you can pre-bend it to negotiate a difficult access, the way you would a hand file. Independent work has examined exactly this – De-Deus et al. (Journal of Endodontics, 2017) evaluated the blue thermal treatment's effect on fatigue resistance and flexibility.

One file. Done.Complete canal preparation with a single instrument – no glide path needed in the majority of cases (VDW)
25 / .08ISO 25 tip with regressive taper – apical shaping where you need it, dentine preserved coronally
S-shaped coreTwo sharp cutting edges, non-cutting tip, short 11 mm shaft – cuts efficiently, follows the canal safely, reaches molars easily
Sterile blisterFactory-sterile, single use – full cutting efficiency every case, no reprocessing, no fatigue history

// The R25 case, start to finish

1 Access & scout – straight-line access; confirm the canal is patent.

2 Shape – R25 on the RECIPROC ALL setting, in gentle in-and-out pecking movements per VDW's directions, cleaning flutes and irrigating between passes; the rings at 18/19/20/22 mm give length reference on the radiograph.

3 Gauge – at working length, verify the apical size; if the canal is clearly wider, step up to R40 or R50.

4 Fill – dry with matched R25 paper points and obturate with the matched R25 gutta percha cone. The taper you cut is the taper you fill – accurate tug back, no cone-fitting guesswork.

› Retreating instead? The R25 is also VDW's instrument for removing old filling material, with published studies evaluating its use for gutta percha removal – one file, both directions of the case.

// The arithmetic your practice manager will like

A rotary sequence spends three to six instruments per case, plus reprocessing. RECIPROC® blue spends one sterile file – the cost per canal is a number you actually know, the sterilisation load drops, and no part-worn files with unknown fatigue history stay in circulation. Buying in? The R25 25 mm is available in the RECIPROC® Blue + SDR® flow+ Kit – the most cost-effective way to buy this file in the store.

Do I need a glide path first?
In the majority of cases, no – that's the RECIPROC® concept. Where a canal can't be negotiated, establish a conventional glide path first.

Which size do I choose?
R25 for narrow and most canals – it's the default. R40 for medium, R50 for wide. If a hand file slides passively to length in a wider canal, step up.

What motor do I need?
Any motor with the RECIPROC ALL programme – VDW.SILVER®, VDW.GOLD®, X-Smart® Pro+, X-Smart® Go and compatibles. Run one already? Nothing new to buy or learn.

Will standard GP cones fit an R25 preparation?
Not well – the regressive taper doesn't match standard cones. The matched R25 cones mirror the file's geometry for a snug, predictable seat, with up to 40% better dimensional stability than hand-rolled cones (VDW).
